Sources and Methods for Researching Native American Ancestors

Nationally renowned speaker Paula Stuart-Warren will teach the basics for using the abundant and rich sources available to research U.S. Native American family history. Many types of records will be covered, including Indian census, special rolls, manuscripts, religious records, and Indian school records. The National Archives and regional locations, historical societies, state archives, county courthouses, and other record locations are described. The importance of understanding the historical and cultural context of the records and the lives they reflect will be discussed. Migration research provides some surprises for ancestral locations. An extensive handout provides steps, websites, and publications to further your search. Reservations required, use link below to register for this Zoom Meeting. Registration is limited.
