Lauren Austin is an African American fiber artist with over 30 years of art quilting experience. She lived overseas for many years, developing and completing community art projects in the U.S., Bahamas, Kenya, and most recently China, where she lived and worked for five years. Along with family photos and drawings, her work consists of her hand-dyed, hand-painted fabric which is used to make fabric portraits of African American life and human rights themes. Austin will lecture on the history of African American quilting and explain the cultural connections in her work.
