Holidays at HPL

Note: We are recycling this blogpost from last year. Make your holidays more merry by using some of these awesome free media services!

After the family gatherings, gift sharing, caroling, feasting, and merriment, spend some time with us. Relax with a cuppa and maybe check out an e-book or download an audiobook. We have recently added more e-book services as well as titles. Give Overdrive, Axis360, OneClickDigital, ComicsPlus (great for teens), and Hoopla a chance. For the little ones, try Tumblebooks, where you can find lots of children's books as well as National Geographic videos. Checkout the E-books & More section for more information.

If it's music you like, then we've got something for everyone! Try Hoopla and Freegal - both offer streaming music with some video content, several genres, contemporary, classic, and world music.

Hoopla also has TV shows and movies that you can stream, including holiday themed movies. Use your valid MY Link library card to access e-books, music, and other digital media.

When families get together, lots of stories are shared. Some of these usually involve family history. We see a rise in the number of questions about genealogy and obituaries right after the holidays! Plan a visit to our world famous Clayton Library Center for Genealogical Research. Their knowledgeable and friendly staff will help you find the right tools and information. Don't forget to watch the Genealogy Roadshow on PBS - they recently taped an episode that featured Clayton. It is scheduled to air in May 2016.

Thinking about getting back to reading? Attend one of the book club meetings. There are several offerings throughout Houston, covering many genres.

As the holiday season begins to wind down and you start planning for the new year, make us part of your schedule. Whether it is your New Year's resolution, homework help, resume assistance, starting your own business, college prep, or storytime, we have something for everyone, for every life event and occasion.

Here's to our library customers - Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
