After applying for a card, you must pick up your card at any of our locations to access or borrow any physical materials or you can simply benefit from our virtual library. No physical library card is needed to enjoy our electronic resources.

Library cards are free for Texas residents.
You must provide one of the following forms of valid photo I.D. that is not expired:
- Government agency issued identification card
- Passports from any country
- Any state driver's license
- Any state or city identification card
- METRO identification card
- School identification card
If the photo I.D. does not include your address, include a separate document to validate this information.
Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to apply. Parents must sign applications for children under 18; if the child is not present, the parent or guardian must provide one of the following:
- Current identification/document in the child's name issued by a government agency, school, or social services provider
- Child's birth certificate
- Child's immunization record

Non-residents may obtain a library card for $40 annually or $20 for 6 months. Fees can be paid using personal check or money order made out to City of Houston. You can apply in person, by mail or online.
Update, Renew, or Lost MY Link Cards
Library cards must be renewed every 3 years. Please keep your contact information current and/or renew your library card here.
There is no charge for replacements, but please report lost cards immediately. Cardholders are responsible for all checked out materials on their card.
